With snow still falling, thoughts of soccer may be far away for most of us. But for the Alderson Broaddus men’s soccer team, preparations for the new season have already begun.

With last fall’s early exit from the GMAC conference tournament behind them, coaches and players have high hopes for this year.

“Our expectations for this year is to return to the top of the GMAC conference and get a bid to the NCAA National Tournament”, Coach Scott Phipps said.

To achieve that goal, the team works on conditioning five days a week. On Monday and Wednesday the team has a gym session; Tuesday and Thursday they have conditioning in the field, and Saturday afternoons the players take to the the field with a ball.

“Our expectation with this preparation is that our team individually improves fitness, technical skill, tactical knowledge, and experience to prepare us for a better season next fall”, Coach Matt Reeb said.

This conditioning goes until March 2.

As well as the coaches, players have their own goals for this year.

“My expectation for this year is to do a good preparation, to improve all my skills and win a place on the team to play as much as possible to help the team” Nevado Elliot said.
