The NCAA DII basketball season has started, and the Alderson Broaddus Men’s Basketball team is looking to build on a successful start.
The Battlers roster features several returning players and some talented newcomers. Expectations to do well are high for this team, according to sophomore guard, Malik Bocook.
“We are working very hard to make sure we really go for it all this year,” Bocook said. “We’re expecting a good year, and we can’t wait to put on a show for the student body.”
Bocook says that the support of fans is a big boost to the team, who already have a winning record overall and in their conference (7-2 overall, 2-1 in GMAC).
“Having a ton of fans there just makes playing the game more fun,” Bocook said. “There isn’t anything better than hitting a big shot or taking the lead when a crowd is involved. You hear them cheer and it just makes you play even better.”
The Battlers are nine games into the season, but the bulk of the schedule will be played when students return from winter break. The Battlers next game is tonight, Thursday, December 14 at 7:30 p.m. against Lake Erie College (6-3).
