Rocky Horror on stage puts audience in show

Students from Alderson Broaddus had the opportunity to do the time warp again during fall break as a part of Buckhannon Community Theatre’s production of “The Rocky Horror Show.” The event was hosted by AB’s Gay-Straight Alliance, as well as WV Wesleyan’s LGBT+ group, Prism.

Students boarded the vans at 7 p.m. on Oct. 19 in order to make the short trip from Philippi to Buckhannon. After the event, GSA held a small pizza party with both the cast and Prism. Although the occasion of the evening was only a dress rehearsal, the cast did not shy away from the essence of the production. Their energetic performance left spectators desiring more, and the audience became part of the production through intense interaction from the cast.

“The Rocky Horror Show” is an adult theatrical production that tells the story of newly engaged couple, Brad and Janet. After they break down in the middle of a storm and find themselves in the castle of mad scientist Dr. Frank N. Furter, he proceeds to unveil his muscleman creation, Rocky Horror, to the couple. Since its original performance, the musical production has amassed a devoted cult following.

This performance marked the third and final installment of Buckhannon Community Theatre’s production of “The Rocky Horror Show.” According to the cast, they decided to retire the piece and will move onto other productions.

Several students who were looking for additional entertainment over fall break opted to see Buckhannon Community Theatre’s final two performances of “The Rocky Horror Show” on Friday, Oct. 20 and again on Saturday, Oct. 21.
